Catching a Rainbow~ Personal Branding Photography for Sabel Rose Regalia, Fine Art Quilter

A few weeks ago, I had the wonderful opportunity to capture the rainbow-infused world of Fine Art Quilter, Sabel Rose Regalia. Her studio in Santa Rosa, CA, is located in a reclaimed military base, and when I arrived, it was like stepping into the technicolor world of Oz after leaving dismal Kansas. Everywhere I looked was an explosion of color & patterns, with little whimsical altars and flowers arranged on every surface.

Together we captured the story of her creative process, so she will have a whole custom gallery of photos to use on her website & social media accounts. Sabel Rose creates vivid one-of-a-kind creations, and offers custom fine art quilts by commission. To find out more, please visit her website & sign up for her email list for openings.

Sabel recently sent out an email with a beautiful description of our afternoon together (shared with permission):

“I'm so thrilled to tell you that I hired a photographer to come to my quilt studio and capture me within my world.

I am still on a little vacation out of town, so receiving the final edited photos during my trip has been a joy. I'm sharing just a few favorites, out of the literal hundreds I got. I'll soon be inserting them all over the internets as I build my website and take over social media as the mega-influencer my mother raised me to be.

The whole experience was very cool, full of intention and heart. I hired a WONDERFUL local personal branding photographer named Tenaya Amelia of Dream Speak Design. Tenaya and I had a few video calls to map out the shoot, she asked a lot of questions about my quilt business, like who my ideal clients were, and what stories I wanted to tell with the photography.

I spent an entire week cleaning and organizing my studio, dusting clowns, folding fabric piles, hanging mini quilts, and looking at all the angles of my room with an eye open for the best potential shots.

It was helpful to refresh every corner and drawer, in the way a deep cleaning can help reset your home and mental space.

I placed flower bouquets on every surface of my room. I grew many of the flowers in my garden and the rest I bought from my favorite farmer-artists Hedda, Leah and Sophie at Full Bloom Flower Farm in Graton, CA.

The day of the shoot I got my hair fluffed up and glamorized by the best stylist Rosa Jerez, who turns every head she touches into living art.

Tenaya and I shot for a few hours in my studio, in every corner and with me using every tool and sewing machine I have. She had me step into my creative process and do the things I usually do to prepare myself to work. Like eat snacks and fondle fabric.

We went to a second location for the last part of the shoot, the Luther Burbank Gardens, which is a place that's very special to me near my home. It's a botanical museum grounds, full of unique plants and manicured garden beds. Can you tell how much I love it there? Also there's squid on my dress.” -Sabel Rose Regalia

Thank you so much Sabel! It was an absolute joy capturing your rainbow world!
